How do I know I’m buying land from the rightful owner?

What’s the difference between leased land and freehold land in The Gambia?
Leased land is owned by the government and common in urban areas—it’s yours for a set number of years and must be renewed when the lease ends. Freehold land, often in rural areas, is owned outright and passed down through families—it never expires.
